Faridkot: White Coat Ceremony for Guru Gobind Singh Medical College held

Faridkot: The Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital hosted its second white coat ceremony for 100 MBBS students bringing pride to the aspiring doctors who enrobed themselves in white coats for the first time. The ceremony was held for the first year students who donned the white coats and took the Hippocratic oath and promised to be earnest to the medical profession.


The first year students laid the foundation of their profession amidst the presence of teachers and parents. They took the conventional oath of the medical profession administered by Dr Deepak John Bhatti, principal of the medical college. Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences who was the chief guest for the event cloaked the students. During the event, the faculty members of various departments introduced themselves.


The white coat holds a special significance on the medical profession. The white coat signifies clarity of thoughts and actions carried out in the delivering of their duties towards their profession. It also signifies that the professionals will not have prejudice for any patient based on any caste, creed, colour or sex just as white colour signifies the essence of purity.

“As stewards of this medical college, we are pleased to welcome you into the medical community and to guide you toward a career of learning and caring for others,” he added.


The daily reports Dr Deepak John Bhatti while administrating Hippocratic Oath said that handing the entrants the white coats symbolizes that their patients can trust them and the doctors in making can put in their hearts while dealing with their patients.


A Hippocratic oath is a pledge taken by medical students. The students promise to do their best to participate in all three facets of medical practice: care of patients in a scientific and ethical manner, research and teaching.


Dr Lajya Goyal, Dean Academics at the medical college said that the event stressed on the scientific excellence and compassionate care for their patients.


Guru Gobind Singh Medical College with more than 630 bedded Hospital is a Punjab Government institution established in 1973. The Govt. of Punjab, vide its Notification No.8/02/2005-1HB-III/6308 dated 31.10.2006 transferred this college to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot as its constituent Medical College.
