Explain What is Risky Behaviour: Hindu Rao Medical College Gets DCW Notice on Dress Code for female MBBS medicos

New Delhi: Reacting to the media reports about the controversial order issued by North Delhi Medical college (NDMC Medical College) and Hindu Rao Hospital to its female MBBS Students, the National Commission For Woman has now issued a show-cause notice to its authorities

Medical Dialogues team had yesterday reported about the order calling for stringent dress code whereby the CMO Academics at NDMC medical college and Hindu Rao Hospital directed all the female MBBS students staying in the campus hostel to wear "decent" clothes while warning of severe punishment and expulsion from the hostel for not following the rules.

"MBBS girls will maintain the dress decorum in hostel and medical college campus as it is inside the residential complex of hospital employees. Any kind of high-risk behaviour on the part of MBBS students who are living in the hostels will lead to the issue of warning and expulsion from hostels," the order stated

This order has triggered major resentment in the medical college campus, with the students accusing the authorities for releasing a sexist order and attempting at moral policing of female medicos

The MBBS students started opposing the issued order confused over the fact that what the decent clothes will be, it has not been mentioned in the notice. Some students have alleged that this notice reflects the 'anti-women' mentality of the medical college administration.

Responding to the media reports about the order, National Commission for Women on Tuesday, 17 September, issued a show-cause notice to a medical college in New Delhi for reportedly setting a dress code within the hostel and campus for girls pursuing MBBS, asking authorities to explain their stand on the "sexist" rules.

"Taking suo-motu cognizance of media reports regarding moral policing rules in the hostel, the Commission has asked the college authorities to explain their stand on the sexist rules and what do they mean by tech phrase 'highrisk behaviour'," it said.
