Patna: 8 patients at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital have died have died recently after going through blood transfusion. The reason cited by doctors at the hospital is a transfusion of expired blood. It was after these 8 deaths taken that junior medical practitioners at the hospital cried it to be the result of expiry date tampering on the blood polyethylene by the hospital’s blood bank. Though the hospital authorities earlier rose in defense against the allegations made, they later constituted a six-member committee to investigate the incident. The committee includes heads of all departments and will be submitting its report in the coming ten days.

The blood bank in-charge has countered all allegations of blood bank tampering with the assertion that all bags are fully tested. The deaths have raised questions at the competency of the state health department, which is already a low budget enterprise. The government has asked for a detailed report submission, assuring severe action against those guilty reports Zee News.

According to a Junior doctor’s narration, people at the hospital got into altercations with the staff soon after the blood transfusion deaths occurred.

According to doctors patients who were otherwise normal began to get restless after infusions of expired blood

One of the doctors asked for a thorough probe saying “The juniors are made responsible for any lapses. Even angry relatives of patients also started beating us.”

The doctor alleged that number three on the blood polyethene was tampered with and made into eight with the help of a pen reports India.com.
