Sambalpur: VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), earlier known as the VSS Medical College and Hospital, made autonomous, has lost a majority of its doctor recruits. 32 of them have been transferred from VIMSAR in the last one year, and 12 more relieved of their services by the Director of VIMSAR, Dr Aswini Pujahari without state directives.

The total number of doctors who have been transferred till now stands at 44.

The first September 22 meeting of Executive Council, VIMSAR held last year, in a resolution adopted to relieve doctors under OMES cadre from VIMSAR and appoint doctors under VIMSAR cadre. However, the matter is pending in the High Court.

Interestingly, not being a State Government directive, it has been found based on based on a resolution of the Executive Council. The move is being looked upon in apprehension, however, raised many an eyebrow. With most important departments already without doctors, the authorities have no justifications to give. With the matter of appointment for the post of Assistant Professor pending over reservation policy in the High Court over matters have taken a difficult turn.

According to sources, an advertisement came out last year for the appointment of 98 Assistant Professors posts and 53 Senior Residents. Out of these 41 Assistant Professors and 14 Senior Residents joined on a contractual basis.

Another fresh advertisement for appointment of 91 Assistant Professor was also published however nothing has been done in terms of recruitments as the matter is pending in the High Court.

Although new beginnings in the direction of Doctor recruitments has been taken under the VIMSAR cadre, surprisingly, many doctors, who are want to continue with VIMSAR, have also been transferred from it. The relieved doctors, face apprehensions about their place of postings as they have not been transferred on the direction of the State Government. Any further delay in recruitment of doctors is bound to have VIMSAR lose some of its MBBS seats, with the MCI expected anytime for an inspection, reported TNIE.

The Director of VIMSAR confirmed the news that the doctors were relieved from their posts at VIMSAR as per the orders of the Executive Council. He admitted that patients will be left in the lurch if there was further delay in doctor appointments.
