Exam Failure, Attendance Shortage: UCMS 3rd year MBBS Student allegedly Commits Suicide

The deceased MBBS student was allegedly upset over an examination in which he had failed and the shortage of attendance in the medical college.


New Delhi: An aspiring doctor, an Under-Graduate MBBS student pursuing his third year from University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), has allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB Hospital) with which the medical college is associated.


The deceased identified as 22-year-old MBBS student had allegedly taken this drastic step after feeling dejected over an examination failure and due to low attendance in his classes at the medical college.


The unfortunate incident reportedly took place on Monday, April 22 around 4 pm. The medico was found hanging and the room was locked from outside.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), informed PTI, "The deceased, who was a third-year student of MBBS at University College of Medical Sciences, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan with the help of a cloth."


According to a recent report by The Hindu, the preliminary enquiry has revealed that the deceased MBBS student was allegedly upset over an examination in which he had failed and the shortage of attendance in the medical college.

The MBBS student was a native of Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was residing in old boys' hostel of GTB Hospital. His room was found locked from inside, police said, adding no suicide note has been found and his belongings being checked.


"The family has been informed. Reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained and further proceedings are going on," the police officials added.
