Efforts are being made to provide one doctor per 1,000 persons and basic infrastructure in the state as per the norms of World Health Organisation(WHO), Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said today.

This would help provide quick healthcare services, he said on the sidelines of the ongoing budget session of the Assembly.

Vij said he has met Union Health Minister J P Nadda and urged him to help in opening two new medical colleges every year in the state.

At present, the state has four government and as many private medical colleges while two others are in pipeline, he said.

Beside this, work on Miri-Piri Medical College run by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Shahbad, near Ambala, is being initiated. It "was closed during Congressrule in the state", the health minister said.

Vij said he has held a meeting with SGPC President Avtar SinghMakkar over the medical college and "all hurdles at administrative level are being removed".

The Health Minister said he also held a meeting with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and put before him a proposal of setting up a medical college.

SGPC and Dera Sacha Sauda have given consent, he said.

The state government has set a target to open medical colleges in all districts. By achieving this Haryana would be able to get healthcare facilities according to the prescribed norms of WHO, Vij said, adding, the government is working to provide better healthcare facilities at low cost.

A survey of all 3,292 health institutions of the state would be conducted. The condition of buildings and availability of medical and para-medical staff available would be assessed, he said.

Salary and other facilities being given by other states would be studied to attract doctors to government hospitals, he said.
