Dual Nativity students in Tamil Nadu Summoned by High Court

Chennai: The files of the 440 students who are alleged to have produced dual nativity certificates during the admission process to various undergraduate courses at medical colleges of the state have been summoned, by the Madras High Court, recently.


The State Health and Revenue Department, Secretaries are also to be impleaded in the petition filed by the father of an MBBS student on his behalf .The directive to this effect was given by the presiding Judge, Justice N. Kirubakaran. The student has alleged that illegally secured dual nativity certificates were obtained by students to get medical admission in medical colleges.


The K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, Trichy student's grievance being that he has not been given a transfer opportunity to a Chennai Medical College, because of there being a 104 dual nativity certificate students already present in the city's colleges.


The matter will be coming up for hearing on November 6. "Since the nativity certificate is issued by Tahsildar, who comes under Revenue Department, the Revenue Secretary is also impleaded. The secretary of selection committee of medical admission is directed to produce the entire files of selected candidates with records," said Justice Kirubakaran


The petitioner K. Ravi, father of the aspirant student from Aynavaram, Chennai has contended that despite his son holding an all-India rank of 1,05,634, and having scored 367 out of 720 in the NEET, was being prevented from entering Chennai's prestigious medical colleges, by illegal entrants.


"Candidates from other States are alleged to have produced the dual nativity certificate in order to procure a medical seat in Tamil Nadu." the petitioner told the Hindu. He also claimed that there were still some vacancies in both Stanley and Madras Medical Colleges.
