Drunken Brawl: 25 MBBS Residents of SN Medical College Arrested, 40 medical staff booked

Agra: Twenty-five MBBS doctors attached to SN Medical College were arrested yesterday for allegedly causing a major ruckus at a local pub and subsequently engaging in a clash with the police, who arrived to pacify the situation.


According to confirmation made by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Pathak, "15 junior doctors are still in jail, while 10 others have been granted bail. Forty other unidentified medical staff of the college is also booked for vandalism and other charges."


The incident occurred at the Ashoka pub and restaurant near Delhi Gate late night on 15th September, when the junior MBBS doctors and medical staff were celebrating a colleague's birthday and demanded alcohol after closing hours. The doctors allegedly got fumed after being denied liquor and began hurling abuses at the pub's staff and creating a chaos at the premises.


Following the incident, the pub and restaurant manager, Shivaji Ohja called the police. It has been alleged that the doctors called some of the medical staff from the college and who further vandalized the pub, and also beat up the policemen. The policeman retaliated with the lathicharge as in the video below

While narrating the whole incident, the pub and restaurant manager, Shivaji Ohja complained to the police, "The doctors were unruly and adamant about their demand to serve more liquor. When our staff informed them about the closing time, the heavily inebriated men started hurling abuses and misbehaved with the staff. The unruly men did not stop here. They called nearly 40 other medical staff of the college, who barged into the pub and vandalized it, creating a sense of terror among other guests who were having dinner with their family members in our restaurant."


"We immediately dialled distress call to police. The doctors even manhandled the men in khakee who were video-recording the confrontation. The 82-year-old owner of the pub, Sunil Sarin, too suffered injuries when he attempted to pacify them," Ojha told TOI.


Mahesh Kumar Gautam, Station House Officer (SHO) of Hariparvat Police Station informed TOI, "The accused doctors were booked under IPC's sections 147 (riots), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 452 (house-trespass alter preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act."


In response to the incident, the doctors shut down medical services at SN Medical College's emergency ward causing patients a lot of hardships. Amar Ujala reports that a nine-month-old baby had died after no aid was provided to her at the medical facility.
