Dr TS Ravikumar takes charge as President of AIIMS Manglagiri

Vijaywada: Former Director & CEO of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) and present Director cum Vice Chancellor, Sri Venkateshwara Insitute Medical Science (SVIMS) Dr TS Ravikumar has taken charge as President of AIIMS Manglagiri.

JIPMER was made an institution of national importance by an Act of Indian Parliament in 2008 and Dr. Ravikumar was appointed its first Director. He completed his term on March 11, 2015. He came to India after serving in the U.S for over 36 years in various capacities. He completed his M.S in Surgery from Madras Medical College and completed his M.S. in Surgery from Madras Medical College and completed American Board of Surgery in addition to FRCS from Canada & Edinburgh. He is a fellow of American College of Surgeons.

His appointments have included various medical and teaching posts at national and international institutions of importance including Harvard Medical School, University School of Medicine. Prior to moving back to India, he was at Geisinger Health System, Pennsylvania during 2009 - 2011 as Director of NCI Community Cancer Center Program, Director, Surgical Innovations & Chief Quality Officer for Surgery/Interventional Procedures.

He is recognized internationally for his work in colorectal cancer and liver metastasis and value-based care delivery in hospitalized patient population using a novel model of risk mitigation for patient safety. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the top doctors/best doctors listings consistently since 1995. He is a member of several surgical and oncologic societies, including Society of University Surgeons and the American Surgical Association.

Dr Ravikumar was appointed the head of the institute by Union Health minister JP Nadda last week and will serve duties till the end of his tenure after five years

AIIMS, Mangalagiri has commenced its Academic Session 2018-19 from temporary campus at Government Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada. The temporary campus is expected to be operational for two years. Accordingly, for eight departments, new academic blocks have been constructed. The necessary faculty are appointed in full strength. One Lecture hall has been refurbished with modern amenities and state of the art equipment for a fulfilling class room experience
