Vijayawada: Dr. Gururam Prakash, a humble man, with rural beginnings, has emerged as an all-India first ranked in the entrance exam conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER)-2018, in their surgical gastroenterology stream.

Proud of his performance, he told the Hindu, “I see this as an opportunity to equip myself with the wherewithal, come back to this city and serve my people here,”

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, and speaking about the vast gap in accessibility to medical services by different sections of the society, he expressed his desire to fulfill this gap through his services.

Dr. Gururam having completed his MBBS from Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical College went on to do an MS from Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam, where he bagged a gold medal and was also given the ‘best student’ of the University award.

“My father is a farmer and mother a teacher. I am a son of this soil and intend to come back to serve the local people. The focus would be on extending medical care to the common man in the best possible way,” he stated.

He gave credit to Dr. N. Tirumala Rao of city-based Harini Hospital, for his outstanding performance. Dr. Ram works as a general surgeon at this hospital.

Dr. Tirumala Rao said the young doctor’s winning-spree started with securing the 1000th rank in EAMCET. He then secured top ranks in a series of PG CET (Common entrance test) in medicine. “Dr. Ram Prakash is the third youngest person in JIPMER’s (Super-speciality) history to secure this rank among 2,600 candidates who took the test,” he added to the Hindu.
