Dr Hem Chandra Pandey appointed Vice Chancellor, HNB Uttarakhand Medical Education University

Dehradun: Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna (HNB) Uttarakhand Medical Education University has got a new Vice-Chancellor in Dr. Hem Chandra Pandey, a specialist in Hospital Administration. Dr Pandey becomes the sixth VC of the university and took charge from 6 September 2018.


Before joining as the VC Prof. Hem Chandra served as the Head of Department, Hospital Administration & Medical Superintendent, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow. A professionally sound figure, he acquired his MBBS from KGMC Lucknow. Thereafter, he completed his Masters in Hospital Administration (MD) from AIIMS New Delhi and PhD, and DLitt ( Lk, gin ). He also served the Army Medical Corps as an SSC officer ( Major ) before joiningSGPGI in Lucknow.


For his outstanding contribution in the medical field, he was conferred with the UP Ratan award, Award for excellence and has held numerous important posts in the field of Hospital Administration


His contribution is not confined to the hospital but spread throughout UP and Uttarakhand as he organised various Professional Training Programmes and started the MHA/DHA Courses at IGNOU, SGPGIMS, Lucknow University, BHU and HINT Dehradun.


Under his leadership, the IGNOU center at SGPGIMS for PG diploma in hospital Administration has bagged 5 gold medal out of 15 convocations held so foil, Mona 29 centers. He has numerous paper publications, paper presentations, book publications. Dr Hem Chandra belongs to village Sadigaon, Dwarahat Mahakaleshwer, Uttarakhand


Speaking to Medical Dialogues team about his appointment, Dr. Hem Chandra Pandey stated "My focus will remain on providing the best of the ethical medical education to Uttarakhand and develop latest modern medical education venues for upcoming doctors"


He stressed on taking tertiary care in conjunction to secondary care to rural and hilly areas in the state. Tertiary care includes Neuro, Renal, Gastro and super specialty care still not reached the remote areas of Uttrakhand. For the same, he stated that efforts will be made to start DM and MCH courses in hospital.


Pandey replaces Professor HS Dhami, who had held the VC's post from November 2017 under additional charge. Dr Pandey will be the third regular VC of the university since its formation in 2013.
