Meet Dr Ashraf Kesrani: All India topper of NEET PG 2019

Ahmedabad: Dr Ashraf Kesrani has emerged as the All India topper of the prestigious National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to Post Graduation courses (NEET PG); results of which were declared by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) yesterday.


The entrance examination, NEET PG is the gateway to PG medical courses in the country including Master of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD) as well as PG Diploma courses.


Dr Kesrani has scored 1,006 out of 1,200 marks in the exam which was held on January 6 in over 165 cities for 1,48,000 candidates. Out of the total number of candidates; 78,660 students have qualified the NEET PG.

Exhilarated with his hard-earned achievement; the topper, who belongs to a middle-class family, said that it was his dream to get into the best medical college without being worried to pay exorbitant fees and now he has accomplished it.


He told TOI, "It was my dream to get top ranks so that I can study without putting my father under the financial burden of paying hefty fees for PG medical courses. I am happy that I have fulfilled this dream."


Dr Kesrani, a student of Baroda Medical College; is the first in his family to become a doctor and he wishes to pursue MD medicine from the premier Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi.

Furthermore, Dr Yash Shah attached with BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad ranked 15th, scoring 946 marks. He self-studied instead of joining any coaching class and wants to pursue MD medicine.


Dr Kavan Parikh, also of BJ Medical College, has scored 18th rank, getting 943 out of 1,200 marks. He has an interest in teaching and wants to go for Medicine or Radiology, as per the daily.
