Doctor duped of Rs 33 lakh on promise of MD seat for ward at JIPMER
PUNJAB: Yet another case of medical admission racket came to light recently after a doctor father filed a complaint with the police that was made a fool off and duped for Rs 33 lakh under the promise of MD seat for his son at the premier Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry.
Based on the complaint, three accused have been booked in the case so far.
According to the Ludhiana based doctor, he came in contact with the conmen seeking PG medical admission for his son at a reputed medical college. The trio assured to secure an MD seat in JIPMER and demanded Rs 33 lakh for the same which he later paid to them. However, they failed to arrange the promised seat. When the complainant asked them to return the money, they refused.
He moved the police and filed a complaint in this regard.

The police started the investigation after the complaint was filed with Division number 3 police station in August 2019.
“A case under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Division Number 3 police station. We have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused,” the Assistant sub-inspector, Ballaur Singh informed Hindustan Times.
He also informed that after the investigation done by the senior officials, police have booked the accused who are residents of Bengaluru.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported 3 conmen had been booked by the police on the basis of the complaint filed by over 20 people alleging that the trio had promised MBBS seats for their wards. As per the investigation, the accused had allegedly cheated the parents of total Rs 57.5 lakh.
