DMER Admission brochure: The new guide to Maharashtra medical college admissions
Mumbai: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research(DMER),Maharashtra, has released an admission brochure for the upcoming admission process. However, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET) results are yet to be announced.
The DMER brochure informs students about the rules and regulations to be followed for this year's admissions to the medical and dental institutes in the state.
"The brochure will give students an idea of the various rounds of admission, necessary documents needed and appropriate authority conducting the admission for different institutes, etc," said Dr Pravin Shingare, Director, DMER.
Dr. Shingare revealed that the brochure incorporated recommended changes ordered by the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court in the past months.
The brochure announces the following important points:
- There shall be a common counseling for admission to MBBS course in all Medical Education Institutions on the basis of merit list of the National Eligibility Entrance Test.
- The Designated Authority for counseling for the 15% All India Quota seats of the contributing States shall be the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
- Besides MBBS / BDS the admission to other health Sciences courses i.e BAMS/BHMS /BPTh/BOTh/BASLP/BP&O & BSc (Nursing) will be filled on the basis of merit list of NEET UG 2017
Qu0ting the Supreme Court Order Of Eligibility for Surrender Seats the brochure highlights the following:
As per judgement of this Hon'ble court in the case of Ashish Ranjan vs Union of India & Ors there shall be only two rounds of counselling each conducted by the DGHS/state government or authority designated by the state government for All India Quota (including deemed university) and state quota seats respectively
The brochure also contains an elaborate detail on the number of medical and dental institutes in the state, both those run by the government and others that come under the deemed and private institutes along with their seat strengths.
The NEET result announcement will bring forth the final details regarding the counselling and admissions. "We need to know the merit list in order to inform exact details on the counseling process for students," said Shingare to HT.
The Supreme Court order dated June 26 to the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) has asked for the release of the NEET result on or before June 26. However, an official confirmation is still awaited. Though the officials claim that the results would be out within the given deadline of the court.
