Madurai: A Public interest litigation seeking compensatory marks for Tamil medium students for the National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET) due to the errors and disparities in the paper was adjourned by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

Justice AM Basheer Ahamed and Justice Selvam after hearing the arguments presented by the counsels of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Central and State governments against the PIL, announced the adjournment.

CBSE and the government while presenting their argument in the court said that the students while applying for the exam had been informed that in case of any doubt about the questions in the regional paper, the English version was to be taken as the final interpretation, reported India Today.

Defining the errors in the question paper as "'error clauses' at the cost of the students," the Judges criticized the CBSE board and queried whether the Tamil students were to awarded on the parameters of knowing English- as a subject. Having said that, the judges dismissed the petition.

The judges also stated that the rank list for Tamil Nadu students was to be published the same day and admission counselling carried out, as the next step.

The bench supported the government stand that the PIL should have been filed before the publication of the answer key.
