Devkishen Katadiya, the missing MBBS student found at an ashram

Vadodara: The frantic search for the missing MBBS student Dev Kishan Katadiya’s whereabouts finally came to an end when the boy was located at the ashram in Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh early on Sunday morning.What led to his whereabouts was a call to his cousin Janak asking him to reassure his parents that he was safe and that they should not worry about him. The police with an already intensified search launched at the behest of the students, his own parents and state authorities had narrowed down the look to Gir Somnath where his relatives resided.

The police on being informed by Janak traced the call from which the boy had called Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh

The Vadodara police informed their counterparts in MP and shared Katadiya photos and other necessary information to find him. A team of policemen from Gorwa police was immediately dispatched to Khandwa, which finally traced and reunited the boy with his parents.

Their conversations with Dev Kishen’s colleagues and their recorded statement led them to believe that the boy was either in his native place Gir-Somnath or had gone to some ashram. This led to them focusing their search in ashrams in Omkareshwar in Khandwa district.

“We were in constant touch with IPS officer Navneet in MP and his teams searched around 50 ashrams. During the search around 2.30 am, they found the boy sleeping at Baba Barfani Ashram,” said Gautam Parmar, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 1). He added that the search operation was conducted very confidentially since there were possibilities that Katadiya could have changed his location.

After Katadiya was found, his family members, including his father Devshi and brother Hitesh were taken to Mandhata police station in Khandwa where he was restored to them reports TOI.

Katadiya believed to be under a depression will be properly counseled. He was brought to Gorwa police station along with his family late on Sunday evening and released after formalities.

The DCP revealed that three teams had been on the job of tracing the boy. The entire drama unfolded with his two-page letter accusing his professor Dr Ashish Sharma as the man responsible for his action of leaving the college on discovering that he had failed his viva in Dr. Shah’s subject. Several representations were made by his family members and students to the dean of the college, commissioner of police and collector to find him as early as possible.

Later his mark sheet revealed that he had cleared Dr Shah’s exam and failed in the ones conducted by the externals.

The missing Devkishan Katadiya (Ahir) a final-year MBBS student, GMERS Medical College, Gotri left behind a torment of unrest among people at the medical college. Katadiya went missing on March 10, leaving behind a note stating that injustice had been done to him by his teachers, who had marked him poorly during VIVA, despite an overall good performance by him. He also regretted his step of going away in the face of injustice as it was bound to sadden his family.

The happening came to light when Devkishan Katadiya did not return home on Saturday at Kamrej near Surat. Katadiya’s parents had on Friday told him to come home after he was declared as having failed in his viva. When the medical student did not follow parental instruction and reach home, his father called him on his mobile on Saturday, only to receive no response. After successive calls, the parents got in touch with the hostel warden and requested him to check his room.
