Despite MCI No to 7 govt Medical Colleges, Rajasthan Health Dept hopeful
Jaipur: Optimists die hard. The same seems to be the case with the Jaipur government, which is hoping against all odds to manage an MCI approval for starting of the 7 government hospitals, that it has so far declined, due to these colleges not meeting up to its norms.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that on December 14, 2017, Executive Committee meeting of the Medical Council recommended the disapproval of beginning these 7 colleges in the state as they lacked adequate facility, thereby failing to qualify the eligibility criteria.
Since the BJP took over reins of government, continuous efforts have been on to convert the 7 identified district hospitals into medical colleges, however, only to be met with failure every time, as the MCI disapproval came in the face of prevailing shortcomings.
The government, however, continues to remain hopeful and feels the winds might change if this year they are able to live up to the medical education regulator's expectation.
"It's not over. The MCI has pointed out some shortcomings. Now the Centre will direct the principals of these medical colleges to comply with the rules laid down by the MCI. They have to ensure that all norms of the MCI for medical colleges are met," said Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, Anand Kumar.
"The MCI team will visit the medical colleges again to inspect the compliance of its directions," Kumar said.
The Mudaliar Committee recommendations had promoted the ideas of these 7 medical colleges calling them essential for the needs of the state. If the medical colleges were to become a reality for the academic session for the year 2018-19, Rajasthan will have become successful in catering to every 50 lakh population as recommended by the committee.
Seven 300-bed district hospitals have been identified in Pali, Churu Barmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Dungarpur, and Sikar for the purpose of converting them into medical colleges by developing required Council norm facilities reports TOI.
