Desperate to save seats, SN medical college invites walk-in interview for vacancies

Agra: 22 MBBS seats and two PG seats permitted this year in the department of Ophthalmology and Radiotherapy at SN Medical College stand jeopardized as the 17 doctor posts for which interviews were held, have yet to be filled. The doctors interviewed for the vacant positions are believed to have already joined other places. The state government, meanwhile, has announced other “walk in interviews” to fill posts vacant in many of the state run hospitals.

The scenario at SN Hospital is dismal, with 60 of the sanctioned 160 posts in various departments still lying vacant. These are inclusive of 16 professors, 28 Associate Professors, and 16 Assistant Professors, besides the five vacancies at the trauma center.

'Walk ins' were conducted for the above vacancies on May 12 and 17 and selections made on a contractual basis, for a year. The names were sent for approval to the government on May 20. Three months have now elapsed and the hospital authorities are yet to receive a response.

Dr. KK Gupta, Director Medical Education, UP finds nothing extraordinary in this delay, as for him the course of time is part and parcel of government functioning. However, as the matter is now in his knowledge, he says, he will put in efforts to expedite it.

"We had sent the selected candidates list on time," said Shailendra Singh, an official spokesperson of the medical college, adding that the 'walk in interviews' would have to be organized all over again, if the already selected candidates didn't join.

The entire process will take at least two months, but of course to nobody’s loss, except the student and the patients in question reports the TOI.
