Patna: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), meant to improve the standard of medical education in India, and also ensure the intellectual and academic standard of students entering the medical profession, is facing a threat by impersonators. These ghostwriters appear for the exam, in place of aspirants, and take money in lieu of an assured admission.

The latest on corruption penetrating NEET portals came forth, with a team of Delhi’s police officials raiding a house in Khagaria district, on Saturday. They were believed to be looking for a medico, Nitish Kumar, alleged scammer involved in the national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET) admission scam in various colleges, across the country.

Nitish is a doctor of medicine (MD) and a student of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Sadly, the Delhi police's crime branch team, led by sub-inspector Umesh Kumar searched Nitish's house at New Rajendra Nagar looking out for him for all the wrong reasons. However, the police missed him again as he was not to be found there. On an earlier occasion, he gave the police a miss at the DMCH hostel too, where the police had gone looking for him, only to find the room locked from the outside.

The Chitraguptnagar police station head under whose jurisdiction his residence falls said the visiting sleuths took pictures of the scammer's house and left. "Nitish was not present in the house when the police conducted the raid," he said.

According to the Chitragupta Nagar Police Station, House Officer, Priya Ranjan Kumar, a non-bail able arrest warrant had been issued by the chief judicial magistrate of Delhi's Tis Hazari court, Ashu Garg, for Nitish in connection with his involvement in the NEET examination racket, which had come to light last year.

Nitish has been accused of extorting Rs 60-90 lakh from aspirants looking for admission into medical colleges through NEET. An FIR was registered after some NEET aspirants alleged that Noida witnessed a leak of the Online NEET, alleging it to be the job of racketeers favoring students who had paid them hefty amounts for it.

A post-graduate student of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Rajiv Ranjan alias John Mehta, was arrested for acting as an impersonator, last year, at the NEET-2017. Ranjan, it is alleged appeared for the exam on behalf of undergraduate aspirants, for a sum of money, reported Telegraph

Sub-inspector(Delhi Police), Umesh Kumar revealed that approximately 16 culprits involved in the NEET admission racket have already been arrested. According to him approximately 200 ghostwriters impersonated at various centers across the country for NEET 2017.

Hacking of the software to ensure admission for their candidates was undertaken by the racketeers

Nitish and Ranjan are believed to have had an established nexus in various states that helped leak the NEET question paper. Ranjan, one of the prime offenders in the case had earlier told the police that servers at many centers had been hacked in order to facilitate cheating by students.

NEET is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examinations.
