MCI Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 Amended

The Medical Council Of India through its recent gazette notification has brought about changes in the previously functional Regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997, increasing that the date of commencement of the academic session for medical colleges from 3rd September 2016 (quoted in the regulation 1997) to 13th September 2016 ( as read in new regulations)

The decision has been taken by the apex medical body exercising its powers conferred by Section 33 of the Indian Medical Council Act,1956 (102 of 1956), with previous sanction of the Central Government.

The notification bring about the amendments to the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997 renaming these regulations long with the said amendments as “Regulations on Graduate Medical Education(Amendment), 2016”.

The gazette notification clearly states

1.(i)These Regulations may be called the “Regulations on Graduate Medical Education(Amendment), 2016”.

(ii)They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the “Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997”, in the 8th row of Appendix ‘F’, the commencement of academic session shall be read as 13th September.

With the revision the commencement of Academic session will no longer be 3rd September as mentioned earlier in the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997

Graduate Medical Education Regulations deal with the process of medical education in the country, dealing with various aspects of Medical education including curriculum, admission, selection, migration, training, etc
