Court rejects CBI report into MGM Medical College MBBS Medico mysterious death

Indore: The closure report into the death of second-year MBBS student of MGM Medical College in connection with the infamous Vyapam Scam has been rejected by the special court in Indore.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had submitted the report after it was directed by the Supreme Court to investigate the death of the student.

The multi-crore admissions and recruitment racket, Vyapam Scam short form for Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal i.e. involves allegations of widespread corruption in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), which conducts admissions to various professional courses and recruitment tests for state government jobs. Its purview includes tests for medical college admissions and government employment as police constables, teachers, and banking officials, among others, since 2007.

The scam unearthed in July 2013 while investigating complaints of imposters in the Pre-entrance Medical Test (PMT). At that time, the Indore crime branch arrested 20 people, 17 from Uttar Pradesh.

The modus operandi of the scam was to manipulate seating arrangements in examination halls and to fill out optical mark-recognition answer sheets.

Since the investigation into the matter, many other arrests have been made besides the rising death toll.

The 25-year old second year MBBS student MGM Medical College, Indore was one of mysteriously died persons in the case. Her death was initially ruled as a suicide in 2012. However, in 2014, her name appeared in the list of students who had cleared PMT-2010 using unfair means.

Thereafter, in 2015, when the matter reached the apex court, the CBI was directed to investigate the death of the medico.

Later, in December 2017, the CBI submitted a closure report in the case before the special CBI court in Indore, submitting that detailed probe based on available evidences and recording of statements of various witnesses suggested that the MBBS student wasn't murdered, but had committed suicide by jumping from a train in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh.

However, with the medical student's father not being satisfied with the CBI findings, the special court rejected the CBI's closure report in the case and directed the investigation agency to re-investigate the case, reports NDTV.

The CBI has already submitted in the court, closure reports in the other 23 mysterious deaths, classifying them under categories, accidental, suicidal and having occurred due to medical causes.
