Nagpur: The controversial Professor and Head of the Forensic Department, Government Medical College and Hospital in 2015, Dr. Makrand Vyawahare, who was transferred out of the city on alleged charges of sexual harassment of a girl student has been called back to the city. However, this time he returns as the Head of the Forensic Department, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) and Hospital. It is believed that he has been expunged of the charges layed on him and he returns at his own request, ; the reason being his wife ailing from a disease which could find cure here.

The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Chief , Dr Pravin Shingare told TOI that this transfer is on his request to be transferred to Nagpur for medical treatment of his wife. "The transfer has been made by the state chief minister. I am only implementing it. Also there were no obvious reasons to not to transfer him as there was a vacancy at the IGGMC which needed to be filled urgently. Though it is an untimely transfer it is request transfer and I see no hurdle in stopping it," said Dr Shingare to TOI.

Dr Shingare speaking about his transfer years revealed that Dr Vyawahare was transferred from GMCH first to Chandrapur and then to Gondia. His tenure at Gondia hardly saw him at work with an inquiry pending against him at GMCH on charges of sexual harassment. However, Shingare said that with the inquiry over and report of it submitted by Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Head Inquiry, and also Dean, BJ Medical College, Pune, Dr. Makrand could be summoned back.

Dr Vyawahare, giving his side of the story said though he had been issued the transfer order by the deputy secretary of state on Monday, and also relieved of charge from Gondia GMC.

"I am not in a good state of mind as my wife is sick. I had been taking her to Mumbai for treatment and since it is practically not feasible to continue the long treatment there, I sought request transfer to Nagpur," he said.

Dr Vyawahare will be taking up the post earlier occupied by Dr P G Dixit, that of Professor and Head of Forensic Department IGGMC. Dr. Dixit was relieved about 8 days ago and transferred to Miraj GMC. He has yet to join Miraj, though the position rendered vacant by him at IGGMC is to be filled by Dr. Makrand.

Dr Vyawahare in an interesting heart to heart told TOI that he been given a clearance by the inquiry committee constituted by the state government on the matter and the report regarding the same had been submitted to the government 8 months ago.

Though TOI tried to seek the results of the enquiry committee from Dr Chandanwale who assented to submission of the report, but did not agree to divulge the conclusions drawn in it.

Dr Shingare too admitted of the report having been submitted to him and he having forwarded it to the state government.

"It is at present with the medical education department at Mantralaya. I didn't open it. I have no knowledge about the details of the report," added Dr Shingare to the TOI.
