Bhopal: The RKDF Medical College students seeking a shift in the absence of facility and infrastructure on Monday, filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court. The petition was filed in the absence of any action taken on their stand by the government authorities, despite SC orders. The contempt petition has been filed against the state government, Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Commissioner and Director for non- compliance of the court’s order. The name of Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) R S Julania also finds a mention in their contempt plea.

The future of the 150 MBBS students of RKDF Medical College remains uncertain, as the State, DME has failed to take any decision on shifting these students to other medical colleges. The cancellation of college affiliation by the Medical Council of India had led the Supreme Court to order the DME to accommodate the 150 strength to other colleges.

Before the petition was filed by the students, their parents visited ACS Julania over the issue, however, they failed to get a positive response from him. Speaking on the Medical Council’s stand on the issue Advocate, Harish Parashar said that the Council had made clear its stance in the Supreme court by stating that it was willing to make available 135 seats for the students, reported FPJ.

Meanwhile, the court in its directive to the Madhya Pradesh, DME asked for an accommodation of the MBBS students on these 135 seats. However, no compliance with regards to the SC order was met with, added Parashar.

The apex court on April 5 gave 15 days time to the state government to coordinate with MCI regarding placement of these students in other colleges. However, DME, Madhya Pradesh did not take any interest in order compliance. This disinterest on the part of the DME pushed the students to move court added Parasher.

The students at the moment are knocking other doors for admissions, however, unsuccessfully.

In an earlier story done by Medical Dialogues the team reported that the Supreme Court had made a declaration that MBBS students of RKDF facing an uncertain future due to the Medical Council of India(MCI), cancelling the medical college’s affiliation, could be adjusted in other medical colleges of the state. It stated that there were sufficient vacant seats available for student admissions in the state’s medical colleges. The Apex Court urged the High Court to take an early decision in the case lying pending with it regarding the issue.

150 MBBS students had been given admission to RKDF Medical College in 2017. However, as a result of the MCI cancelling the college’s affiliation, the 150 students were left rudderless, moving back and forth in an attempt to get admission in other medical colleges of the state. In an earlier order too, the apex court had directed the government to accommodate these students in other medical colleges.
