Concessions given to govt medical officers serving in rural and remote areas

New Delhi : The government has waived aside all proposals for mandatory intern ship for medical professionals in rural and remote areas.In a reply to the parliament, JP Nadda, Minister Health said health being a state subject, provision of healthcare facilities fell under the jurisdiction of the respective state governments. He further stated that to encourage doctors working in remote and difficult areas, the MCI with the previous approval of the central government, had amended the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000.

Talking about concessions offered to government medical officers working in rural & remote areas, he highlighted a 50% reservation in Post Graduate Diploma Courses to those having served for at least three years in remote and difficult areas.

Secondly, he added, incentive would be given at the rate of 10% the marks obtained for each year in service in remote or difficult areas as up to the maximum of 30% of the marks obtained in the entrance test for admissions in Post Graduate Medical Courses.

He further stated that under the NHM, financial incentive would also be provided to MBBS as well as PG doctors , serving in rural areas. These incentives would be over and above the salaries of the concerned doctors .
