Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, a deemed University in Puducherry, has evolved a competency based postgraduate medical education programme for all postgraduates and this programme would be launched this year.

Stating that the current system of postgraduate training in the country did not ensure a uniform quality of output since there is no continuous assessment and the final evaluation is confined to a single university examination at the end of the course, a release from Dean of the Research and Allied Health Sciences in the Vidyapeeth Professor N Ananthakrishnan said.

He claimed that the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is the first university in the country to launch a comprehensive competency based PG medical education for all PG graduates from this year.

Highlighting the special features of the programme, he said that a comprehensive list was drawn up for all competencies which are required to be present and certified for each PG candidate in each medical speciality at the end of the course.

The aim of this system was to ensure that cent percent of all the PGs acquired cent percent of the professional activities at the appropriate level and the competency based PG medical education programme is framed within the overall guidelines of the Medical Council of India, he said.
