Coimbatore:The National Ragging Body has received a complaint from a second year student of the Coimbatore Medical College for having been forced to strip and drink beer in the hostel by his seniors.

In a complaint filed Thursday the student stated, “seniors called us and forced us to remove our inners and wear just formal clothes. We are forced to wear formal clothes even to the restroom. They also made us buy cigarettes and beer and even poured beer in our mouth.”

He also revealed that there was a general belief among government circles and society at large that ragging was what turned them into ‘real doctors.’ He requested the national anti ragging body to take up the issue of ragging seriously and help stop institutional ragging.

A Edwin, Dean Coimbatore Medical College responding to the complaint told the media that the college authorities would ensure that no ragging took place. He said that precaution would be taken that no seniors entered the junior hostel building which was separate from the seniors.
