Coimbatore: Government coaching for NEET begins

Coimbatore: The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), coaching facility set up by the state government at the Sri Krishna Institutions had a rush of 244 girls and 130 boys on Monday, the first day of their coaching for the forthcoming NEET.


The students, who are from government schools in Erode, Tirupur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, the Nilgiris, and Coimbatore, would undergo special coaching in botany, chemistry , zoology, and physics, for 25 days, said K.M. Velmurugan, Head Master, Government Higher Secondary School, Madukkarai and a coordinator at the facility.


The students along with their 20 trainers are being put up at the college hostel. All the teachers have undergone special training to coach the students to clear NEET. Besides teaching the four subjects, a few of the faculty will also teach yoga, exercise and give motivational talks to put the students in the right frame of mind to take the medical entrance examination.


The classes would commence at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. However, yoga would begin at 5.30am in the morning.


Students have been provided handbooks, notebooks, and writing materials, by the State Government's Department of School Education to undergo the training. the cost of food and accommodation, is also being born by the state, said Mr. Velmurugan .


The Government had also helped with transportation to the venue by arranging special buses, said B. Monisha of the Municipal Girls Higher Secondary School, Muruganpudur, near Gobichettipalayam in Erode district reported the Hindu.


Her selection she says was based on her half-yearly examination performance and an informal interaction with the teachers. She is finding the coaching satisfactory.


"I found the use of soft boards and multi-media elements interesting as it made my understanding easy. Plus, the approach of the trainers is different as they focus on making the basic concepts clear."


Besides taking care of academics the trainers deal with the students differently, said A. Velarasu, a student of the Government Higher Secondary School in Thindalpadi, Dharmapuri district.


"Even as I was travelling to the coaching center, I was doubtful if I would be able to confidently attempt the NEET. But having come here and listened to the trainers, I'm confident."


The training was inaugurated by the Municipal Administration Minister, S.P. Velumani.


NEET coaching facility for SC and ST students was also initiated on Monday by the District Adi Dravida Welfare Department also started on Monday.


Senthivel, District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer revealed that the Rs 1.50 lakh contribution of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited will help the Department to fulfill its plan to coach around 100 students at the Balasundaram Road 's Adi Dravida Boys' Hostel.
