Vellore: The 214 KW capacity solar system installations of renewable energy at the Christian Medical College (CMC) have besides contributing to its fight against global warming, have also shifted it to a cleaner source of energy, for its daily operations. This has led to substantial costs being saved.

Having generated a total of 6,58,182 units, since the first solar plant in 2013, the CMC has saved to the tune of Rs.50.41 lakh on energy bills.

Rs 7.25 lakh has been saved on furnace oil purchase due to a solar thermal concentrator being used to preheat the boiler feed water; also leading to a saving of 16,467 liters of furnace oil.

The installation of the CST system at CMC, Vellore had so far generated a saving of over Rs 57 lakhs. The CST being a renewable energy solution is also helping the Medical College go green by reducing the carbon footprint generated, along with other direct benefits.

Requiring a minimal maintenance and management, the system also reduces the load on resources, allowing them the facility to engage in other more productive activities.

Apart from tangible gains like savings on the cost of fossil fuels, CST installations also help in combating global warming through economizing on the use of fossil fuels. This, in turn, reinforces the missions focus on social service, reports Hans India.

The technology is ideal for organizations wanting to cut down on rising cost of fuel on one hand, and degrading ecological balance, on the other.
