CMC Ludhiana: MCI gives away 29 certificates to Faculty at first Convocation of Faculty Development Program

Ludhiana: The first convocation for faculty enrolled in the ‘Advance Course in Medical Education’ was organized at the Christian Medical College on Friday, by the Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Medical Council of India.


Chairman, Academic Committee, MCI, Dr VP Mishra, was the chief guest and Dr Abraham G Thomas, Director, CMC, the guest of honour.29 faculty members were honoured with certificates by Dr VP Mishra.


Dr Abraham G Thomas, who spoke on the occasion informed the audience about CMC ‘s role in faculty development in the past 50 years. Dr Dinesh Badyal, Dr Jugesh Chhatwal, Dr Gagandeep Kwatra, Dr Monika Sharma, Dr Bharti Uppal, Dr Sheena Singh and Dr Aroma Oberoi- program faculty, were present for this first convocation.


Underlining the importance of good teaching practices Dr Mishra informed, that a competency-based curriculum was going to be implemented in the country and faculty who underwent the program would become agents of change for the way in which medical students were currently taught and examined.


The Advanced Course in Medical Education is a faculty development program initiated by the Medical Council of India(MCI). It is propagated through 10 Nodal Centers in the country.


Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, held the unique position of being a pioneer in training the faculty of other nodal centres in 2014.


Each nodal centre happens to supervise colleges numbering between 40 and 50 and jointly enrols 25 teachers from all of these, for the program.The course constitutes two contact sessions- 6 months apart.It also includes 2 sessions of online learning each, for a period of 6 months reports The Tribune.


Christian Medical College’s Acting Principal, Tejinder Singh, is the National Convener of the program.
