Chintpurni Medical College students protest outside the MCI Office for shift to other colleges

New Delhi: The Medical Council of India headquarters had 90 Chintapurni Medical College, Punjab students along with their parents standing outside it, last Monday, carrying placards screaming for justice. Despite the essentiality certificate having been withdrawn from the BJP leader Swaran Salaria owned Chintapurni by the state government on November 3, the students are yet to resume study in other colleges of the state.


The delegation later met officials of the health ministry, the MCI, and the oversight committee that the Supreme Court appointed for the case


According to sources, the state government staying alert to the situation has sent reminders to the Medical Council for the proposed shift and also sent a proposal for approval to the Council for shifting the 249 students admitted over the years to other colleges of the state.


"After the essentiality certificate of the college was withdrawn, students have been sitting at home since November 1. MCI Secretary, Dr Reena Nayyar told HT, "We considered the proposal of the Punjab government in our executive committee and sent it to the oversight committee. As soon as we receive comments from the oversight committee, the matter will be communicated to the health ministry." Dr Sanjay Srivastav, secretary, oversight committee, said, "We have received the reports on Friday and will consider it in the coming days."
