Chintpurni Medical College : Students apprehensive to deposit tuition fee
Faridkot: Approximately 148 MBBS students of Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) are in conflict with the college management on the issue of payment of tuition fee.
Despite, July 15 being fixed as the last date for the payment of tuition fee and issuance of roll number, to the students for the final examinations of the 3rd year MBBS course, the parents of these students have submitted a representation to the Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS).
Their representation demands a moratorium on fee payment till a decision on "closure" of CMCH is taken.
The representation speaking of the uncertain future of the college stated that with the final decision on the show cause notice served by the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER) still pending, and the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare having barred the college from making new admissions for two years, nothing remained a certainty
On May 3 last, the DMER had issued a notice to the college issuing a warning of the College's Essentiality and No Objection Certificate (NOC) being withdrawn in its failure to comply with the MCI and Punjab Government rules and regulations.
The MCI and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have debarred admissions to the CMCH seats for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.
There are only 148 students in the 2014-2015 CMCH batch.
"As the college is facing uncertainty, we want the management to extend the date of fee deposit till the final decision on the notice, but the college management is adamant and want the students to deposit the fee by July 15," said the parents in their representation.
However, the college has threatened not to issue roll numbers to the students, if they fail to comply on fee deposits, before july 15.
Describing parent protest on fee 'an unnecessary hue and cry', the CMCH Principal, RPS Boparai said the show-cause notice to the college had nothing to do with fee payment
Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, talking to the Tribune said, "The university has nothing to do with the fee in CMCH. After the issuance of show-cause notice to the CMCH, the matter is pending with the MCI and the Union Ministry of Health. We have asked the students and their parents to approach the MCI and the Union Ministry to take further directions in this regard."
