Chennai: The PG medical and dental admission’s counselling witnessed poor attendance on Monday when only half of the 2,310 candidates called showed up for it. With 50 % attendance, 1,124 aspirants attended the counselling.

62 seats allocations were done. Government Medical colleges saw 39 seats allocated out of the 41 available. Meanwhile, 23 of 61 available seats were allotted in self- financing colleges.

G Selvaraj, Secretary, Selection Committee, stated that clinical seats had already been filled up except for the reserved category students. The poor attendance was accorded to a number of reasons. One of them being the preference of the clinical over the nonclinical ones said the Secretary. These including those in microbiology, anatomy, and pathology.

He was hopeful about the remaining seats also getting filled with the counselling process still underway. The single window NEET counselling began on May 19 reported TOI.

This year, 864 PG degree and diploma medical seats are in the fray across 15 government colleges as the state has surrendered 50% of seats for admission through the Directorate General of Health Services under the all India quota.
