Chandigarh: PGIMER recipient of Rs 6 lakh for its PPWF Fund

Chandigarh: Kudos! to St Kabir Public School for responding magnanimously to the medical giant- Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research’s(PGIMER) appeal for a donation to its Poor Patient Welfare Fund. The school has donated Rs. 3 lakh out of the Rs. 6 lakh collected by the institute from the general public for its PPWF. The institute runs a poor patient cell on donations from the public.

Announcing the donation collected this year and expressing its gratitude to the donors, the PGIMER authorities stated: “PGIMER is grateful to the generous donors, who have donated in response to our appeal for donations to PPWF. In the last few days, six lakh rupees have been donated to the fund.”


Manju Wadwalkar the institute spokesperson in a statement expressing gratitude to the public for its contribution said, “We wish to convey our sincere thanks to the Management of St. Kabir Public School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, for donating rupees three lac for the poor and needy patients. Such gestures of benevolence by the philanthropists go a long way in benefitting the poor ailing humanity, ” reports TNIE.


According to PGI data 1,728 patients benefited in the financial year 2015-16; while around two thousand people were the beneficiaries in 2016-17 through PPWF.


According to a PGI report, the donor amount for the year 2015-16 was Rs 36,90,103 and in 2016-17, the sum went beyond Rs 59 lakh. The institute, however, had to spend Rs 41 lakh and Rs 76 lakh in 2015-16 and 2016-17, respectively, the institute statement revealed.


The poor patient rush at the PGI has increased with successive years. PGI has had a footfall of over 25 lakh patients in 2016-17. With the OPD figure going a little beyond 24 lakh in 2015-16.
