Chandigarh: PGI Director asks for pending procurement case details from HODs

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Director, Dr Jagat Ram, in an attempt to streamline the institute's functioning has asked department heads to provide details of pending procurement cases, including approval and current status of cases.


In a letter sent to all heads the Director, PGIMER has mentioned initiation of a monthly review meeting to review the status of procurement cases. The meeting will be attended by the Deputy Director (administration), Financial Adviser and other concerned officials of PGIMER, the letter further states.


Professor Jagat Ram, in his letter, has asked the heads to render information regarding all pending procurement cases along with complete details of approvals and current status’s of every case in the next ten days.


The heads have been explain reasons for the delay and efforts made by them to pursue the cases. The letter also asks the heads to list the items procured in the last three years and regarding their installation and functionality. They are also supposed to give reasons for equipment lying uninstalled or in operational.


As an attempt on the part of Mr. Jagat Ram to build relationships amidst members of staff in order to improve functionality within the institute regular meetings are to be held by departmental heads with faculty and staff members of their respective departments.


“You will appreciate that it is very important to have regular departmental meetings with the faculty members and staff members to inculcate team spirit, thereby improving the efficiency of the institute,” said the director. He in his letter stated that he had information that interaction within staff members were close to negligible in some departments.


The letter said, “It would, therefore, be in the fitness of things to have such internal meetings once a month. A copy of the minutes of these meetings along with an action taken report may be sent to the undersigned for necessary action.”


Recently, the PGI director had issued an order, that the administration has decided that no representative of private labs or pharma companies (whether for lab tests or operations or other issues) are to enter patient care and violation of the same would be dealt with severely reports TNIE.
