Punjab: The nursing association of GMCH 32 have stepped forward demanding action from the college management to promote nurses who have been working for the past 20 years, or even more.

250 such nurses have been stuck in one post for the past 20 years. The association had earlier approached the health ministry, who sought action from the institute’s administration on the favour of the nursing association.

This was the second letter issued by the health ministry to the administration directing for an appropriate action in the matter. Out of the 700 sanctioned posts for staff nurses in GMCH, only 250 have not been promoted to sister in-charge. The recruitment rules of Punjab are followed at GMCH.

TOI quoted, "We have been pursuing the matter with the director principal but he has done nothing. How can we work in such an environment? One nurse is taking care of more than three wards which has 30 patients each. The norm is that per ward there is one nurse," said Vijay Kumar, president of the nursing association at the GMCH.

GMCH director-principal Dr Atul Sachdev in his statement implied that a team has been constituted by the college which has made certain observations on the matter. We are planning to send the report to the ministry. Also, the demands raised are both for promotion cadre and additional jobs.
