Chandigarh: GMCH Sector 32 to get e-hospital status

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, is soon to be installed with the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). The installation which would help the hospital acquire an e-hospital status. It would also lead to the introduction of e-cash payment cards for the patients coming into the facility for treatment.


The HMIS system say officials is an introduction to the new digital initiatives for patients and staff alike. "Our objective is to make the hospital completely digital," said Director, Principal, GMCH,while talking to the Chandigarh Newsline.


"The system which we are implementing will have new features. Doctors will be able to access the medical history of the patients and all the records online. It will be just a click away," he added.


The system which is supposed to be fully operational within the next two months will also mean the end of all paper work at the hospital."The facilities would include availability of all the patient related record online. All the records including investigation of the patients would get directly transferred to the doctor's computer," said Sachdev


Based on the pattern of the food court card system, the hospital under HMIS would also be introduced to a card systems. "A patient can visit the hospital, get an e-card of Rs 1,000 made, which can be used to make payments at the hospital," said Sachdev, "The entire project will be properly secured and access rights will be restricted," he added. The hospital will also witness swipe machine installations for patient convenience.


Head, Orthopedics, GMCH, Sudhir Kumar Garg, who is also heading the computer project at the hospital reiterated that it would help the hospital staff. "It has different modules which includes all the activities of the hospital. For example, in case of the pharmacy department, it will help to check the stocks online. Making the hospital completely digital will be useful not only for clinical, but administrative purposes as well. Once we feel that all the modules are working perfect, we will inaugurate it," he said.
