Chandigarh - The e-block of the Government Medical College Hospital(GMCH), Sector 32 has after sixteen years of delayed construction, with the dearth of funds, finally met with completion. It is going to be inaugurated on the 9th of September.

According to the hospital administration, Union Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh in all probability will be inaugurating the block.

Atul Sachdeva, Director-Principal, GMCH said, “The inauguration will take place on September 9. We have approached the office of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to be the chief guest at the function. We have been informed that confirmation will come in a day or two.”

Earlier, the administration had attempted to coincide the completion of the building with the International Yoga Day, (before June 21), so that Prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi who was to be in the city for the event, could inaugurate it- alongside.

However, the engineering wing of the building expressed its inability in completing the structure in such a short time.

A seven floor construction, the e-block since its inception of construction has faced fund allocation issues as well as, fund escalations many times over in the past. However, passing all hurdles it now stands ready to house the overcrowds of patients in the GMCH. The new construction is bound to give a lot of space to the present crowded state of the hospital, said a doctor.

According to Mr. Sachdeva once the building was inaugurated they would be able to start super specialty units in the main hospital.” Surgery OPD will be expanded as well,” added Sachdeva.
