Chandigarh: Director appointment to be in-house, demand senior doctors at GMC,Sec-32

Chandigarh: Senior Doctors commenting on the new recruitment rules made it adequately clear to the UT administration that no outsider would be appointed as Director Principal , Government Medical College, (GMC)Sector 32.


The Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC ) is likely to receive these new rules from the administration in the coming 15 days. According to sources in the UT Health department said that objections to the new rules if any would be examined by Chandigarh administrator, VP Singh Badnore, before final consent is granted.


After the enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 62 in January, the department sat down to draft new rules, leaving many a senior names out of the race for the position.


"The new rules allow only a candidate below 59 for the three-year-tenure post. Members of the faculty below 55 can hold the post for a maximum allowed term of five years," said a UT health department official.


The Director Principal’s post is likely to be advertized in September. Once the new rules of hiring are cleared by the UPSC. "Whether an outsider will be allowed or not, the adviser to the governor will decide. Reserving the post for in-house doctors has promoted only in breeding that can destroy the institute," said a UT official.


Super-specialization departments in urology and neurosurgery at the college have been created by the UT to add to the cardiology super-specialty, brought into existence two years ago.


"We will create more posts in these departments, once the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approves," UT Health Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal said. "We also plan to offer Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree in cardiology from the next session, after which our service will be on the pattern of the (elite) PGI." reports TOI
