Chandigarh: 3 HODs shortlisted for PGIMER director post

Chandigarh:The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research's (PGIMER),Institute Body (IB) is finally going to take a call on the three names shortlisted by the selection committee, formed by the health ministry, for the post of the new PGI Director on Thursday.The Institute Body is headed by the Union Health Minister, J. P. Nadda.


The three names shortlisted for the PGI Director's appointment, by the Union Health Secretary, C.K. Mishra,headed committee include: Dr Anil Bhansali, Head, Endocrinology, Dr Meenu Singh, Department of Pediatrics, and Dr Jagat Ram, Head, Advance Eye Center.


The members of the IB presented with the three names, will now after consideration, forward their recommendations to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which will finally select the PGI, Director. The ACC is headed by Prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

The three shortlisted candidates for the director's position, are all from the PGI.


Twenty six applicants had appeared before the selection committee for an interview last month. Other members on the committee board include Dr V M Katoch, former Director General of ICMR, and Dr Shridhar Dwevedi from Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, New Delhi.


The other names who were earlier considered as front runners for the post are: Dr K Gauba, Head, Department of Oral Health, Dr G D Puri, Head of Anaesthesia, Dr Arvind Rajwanshi, Head, Department of Cytology and Gynecological Pathology.

Dr Subhash Verma has been asked by the Union Health Ministry to officiate in place of PGI Director, Yogesh Chawla, who retired last month, until a new appointment is made.

"We don't know when ACC will meet and take a final call about the selection," said an Institute Body member.
