Centac asks students allotted PG med seats to join before April 20
Puducherry: Students allotted postgraduate medical and dental seats in government and private colleges by the Centralized Admission Committee (Centac), have been directed to join their respective colleges before 3.30pm on April 20, after submitting the fee fixed by the government to the committee’s account.
Centac co-ordinator (admission) Rudra Goud informed that the fee collected by the committee from the candidates will be transferred to the concerned colleges. He revealed that a grievance officer (Nilamani) had been appointed by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services so that candidates facing difficulties in the admission process may seek the officer’s guidance. His mobile number is 93454 54505.
Goud also informed that an aspirant who had been allocated a seat during the ist round of counselling, was free to go through the 2nd round as well for better options. In the same way, if a second round qualifier wanted to participate in a mop-up round, he could do so by paying Rs 25,000 (half for SC/ST/OBC) for a government college and Rs 2 lakh for a self-financing college as fees. This sum would be retrievable if he failed to get admissions.
83 of the total 84 seats under government quota and 43 of the total 81 seats under management quota for postgraduate medical programs offered by Indira Gandhi government medical college and research institute, Sri Venkateshwaraa medical college (linguistic minority institution) (SVMC), Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College (SMVMC), and Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (religious minority institution) (Pims)have been allotted by Centac.
While the only physically handicapped category seat under the government quota in SMVMC remained vacant, all the 37 seats under management quota in the institute were allocated on an all-India basis.
Meanwhile,4 seats out of the total of 19 management quota and 2 out of the 25 at PIMS were allotted after the 1st round reported TOI.
Pims will have to fill up the 23 vacancies with religious minority students (Christians)belonging to the Union territory of Puducherry, while SVMC will have to have students of linguistic minority (Telugu) of the Union territory fill them up.If seats at these two institutions of study continue to remain vacant after the 2 rounds of counselling, they will be converted into management quota admissions for candidates of Puducherry and filled up based on NEET-PG 2018 scores.
If vacancies continue to remain, they will be filled up on an all-India basis at the time of mop-up counselling.
