Puducherry: A seven-member CBI team from Chennai conducted an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in medical admission, at the government medical college here.

According to sources, there were 318 PG medical seats this year of which 162 seats are to be filled up by the government and 156 by the management. The government quota was to be filled up through the Centralized Admission Committee (Centac) of the government.

However, charges of irregularities erupted after the admission, following which Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi intervened and recommended for a CBI probe.

The CBI accepted the request and registered cases against Health Secretary Babu, Centac Chairmen Narendrakumar, Health Director Raman, Centac Convener Govindarajan, Joint Convenor Palaniraja and Coordinator Janradhan Daniel besides seven medical college officials.

CBI conducted investigations in the case and in the meantime, a team came to the government medical college and grilled Dr Govindarajan, Director of the Medical College who was Centac convener.

They also examined files and documents in the office. Already there was complaint of irregularities in the purchase of equipment to the medical college and it is not immediately known whether the CBI is inquiring into that irregularity too.
