The Director said that until the new institution gets its permanent campus, students studying in this college would make use of the 506-bedded Karaikal General Hospital.

The GH will be given a facelift at a cost of Rs 30 core with additional equipment and facilities.

Parija said JIPMER planned to add nursing and paramedical colleges at the Karaikal campus and would require additional land for that purpose.

The new medical college will improve the healthcare needs of the people of not only Karaikal district, but also the neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu, he said.
