Cabinet Approval: PGI Chandigarh transferred 50.76 acres of land at Sangrur
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for transfer of 50.76 acres of land at Sarangpur, Chandigarh to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (PGI Chandigarh).
This will benefit in screening OPD patients, triaging the patients and managing them optimally. Cancer management research & Palliative care would be provided under one roof beside setting up of Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and Multi-Level Parking etc.

The setting up of New OPD, Shifting of Trauma Centre, Cancer Care, and LRC, the waiting time for surgeries will decrease for the common man. Emergency services will be available in a highly efficient manner, infrastructural medical facilities will improve considerably for the common man.
This will benefit the poorest of the poor patients attending the PGIMER, Chandigarh. Health services and tertiary care will be more effective.

The foundation stone for the 500-bedded-satellite centre at Sangrur was laid in 2013 by the Punjab government, with a total allocation of 25-acre land for the institute. The centre was planned to be started with a 300-bedded hospital in the first phase, and also support medical and surgical departments with facility of residential quarters for faculty and staff.

OPD services are operational at the PGI satellite centre and are available from 9.00am till 4.00pm (Monday to Saturday). Currently the centre provides for OPD facilities in Internal Medicine, General Surgery,Obstt . & Gynae, Ophthalmology (Eye), ENT, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Dental. Besides it also provides a set of diagnotic facilties including X-ray and ECG and laboratory services including Biochemistry, Haematology and Microbiology
