Chairman of Academic Committee of Medical Council of India (MCI) Professor Ved Prakash Mishra pitched for rectification of various bottlenecks and deficiencies in legislations covering medical education.
Presenting his key-note address at a three-day national conference on 'changing trends in Health Professional Education' here, he referred to various'paradoxes and legislative limitations' in respect of medical education and said "a right time has arrived now for rectifying the shortcomings."
He also pleaded for naming the National Medical Commission Bill 2016 as 'National Medical Education Grants Commission Bill 2016' so that there could be parity of medical education on par with other higher education in so far as availability of grants for developmental needs was concerned.
A rationalistic approach would cater to the cause of medical education, he said adding the first National Education Commission had underlined several key and most significant parameters for higher education.
National needs and perspectives as highlighted by the commission were significant and contributed tothe national character of education, he said.
