BMCRI has yet to decide on demolition of Vani Vilas Hospital

Bengaluru: The demolition decision regarding the SR Block on the Vani Vilas Hospital premises has yet to be taken by the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).


Dr S Sacchidanand, Director-cum-Dean, BMCRI, said in a statement: "No decision has been taken by the department on the demolition, renovation or reconstruction of the Sajjan Rao Block at Vani Vilas Hospital. The department will take an appropriate decision only after examining the various feasible options."


On January 3, the BMCRI's proposal to bring down the iconic SR Block and renovate four other blocks that sustained damages during a tunnel excavation and construction of a station for Namma Metro was reported by Deccan Herald. The next day 's, newspaper report carried the shocked response of conservation architects, structural engineers and the family of Rao to the plan.


The BMCRI has demanded a Rs 48 crore compensation from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL)for damage repair.


Officials of the Karnataka Health System Development and Reform Project (KHSDRP) who inspected the buildings have opined demolishment, reports Deccan Herald.
