BJ Medical College: 1st year MS student hospitalised after overdosing on Antidepressants
Ahmedabad: A student of first-year Master of Surgery (MS) at BJ Medical College was hospitalized recently, after she allegedly overdosed on an antidepressant in her hostel room.
It has been reported that the girl was found overdosed on an antidepressant in her room located in the Civil Hospital Campus, Asarwa. She was immediately admitted to the Civil Hospital where she was being treated for drug overdose.
The incident led to rumours of ragging and harassment against the medico floating around the campus. It was alleged that the student was being harassed by her seniors and was being made to work round the clock at the hospital. Many blamed Work Stress

TOI quotes some student response which was given on the condition of anonymity -“Everybody fears the repercussions of taking any person’s name or blaming the system. PG resident doctors are put under unimaginable stress as they can be made to clock more than 20 hours on a daily basis."
However, no complaint has been filed from the student’s side or her family.
TOI further reports that allegations also emerged that the woman had also written a three-page note, which vanished soon after. "Confronting a senior or a teacher can have a detrimental effect on her career and this may be the reason for her silence,” a source told the daily.
However, medical authorities denied any allegations of harassments and ragging. They mentioned that the student has a history of depression and such incidents have taken place before when she was pursuing MBBS.
Director of PG courses at BJ Medical College, Dr M F Shaikh, confirmed that the incident has been taken into account and will be monitored. He told TOI, “The woman or her parents have not complained of any harassment having triggered the incident. We want to stress that this is not a case of ragging. She is being treated and will be questioned later.”
