Bihar: New IGIMS college and hospital gets Rs 30 crore for construction

PATNA : A budget allocation of Rs. 30 crore of the total Rs 240 allotted has been released by the state government for construction of a new medical college and hospital of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS).


Details of the new hospital were discussed at a meeting held on Saturday, attended by IGIMS Director N R Biswas, Medical Superintendent, Dr Manish Mandal, Akhilesh Prasad and Rakesh Kumar from engineering and electrical sections and Senior Biomedical Engineer Shailendra Kumar


"The meeting was to finalize the 3D layout of the hospital. The building will have six floors, including the ground floor. It will have three underground parking areas for doctors, staff members and patients. The building will be centrally airconditioned," Dr Mandal said.


Dr Mandal said the proposed building will have a bed strength of 470 beds as per the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms. There will be 60 beds for obstetrics/gynaecology and allied departments, 210 beds for medicine and allied departments, and another 200 for surgery and allied departments. The structure will complete itself with two minor OTs and seven major operation theatres (OTs).


The new hospital will have five beds each in intensive coronary care unit (ICCU), medical intensive care unit (MICU) , intensive care unit (ICU), burn unit, paediatric intensive care unit (PICU), neonatal care unit (NICU), surgical intensive care unit (SICU), and renal intensive care unit.


Ten beds would be there in the nursery alongside an operation theater,( OT). It will also have a CT Scan and an MRI facility.


"We will soon float the tender for the hospital," Dr Mandal told the TOI.
