Idea of NMC against MCI gets Prefered Vote at IGIMS fest
Patna: 'Replacing Medical Council of India (MCI) with National Medical Commision (NMC)' was the topic of discussion at the Medical Parliament, organized, at the two day literary cultural event hosted at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). Students and faculty members participated in this discussion which elicited postive responses in favour of the replacement of MCI by the National Medical Commission . The motion for the National Medical Council received 15 votes against 5 for the Medical Council of India. Named 'Cerebrexia, Adrenalising Youth, the event attracted eight medical colleges of the state, besides NIT, IIT-Patna, NIFT, CUSB and CNLU
A majority of the medical bodies, including State and National IMAs, exhibited themselves to be against the Centre's idea. IGIMS , Medical Superintendent Dr P K Sinha, however , felt that the time had come for the Medical Council of India to be replaced by the National Medical Council, as the former had its inception in the British and its time was now over, reports the TOI.
The two day event inaugurated, on Friday, by RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, saw him asking the Principal Secretary, RK Mahajan to help IGIMS in its all round development.The RJD Chief praised Director, Dr N R Biswas, for his endeavour to develop the institute not only as a hub of medicine, but also as an institution inviting healthy debate and discussion.
Health Minister, Tej Pratap Yadav cut the ceremonial cake to declare the event open. 'Cerebrexia, Adrenalising Youth', is on the lines of AIIMS-Delhi's 'Pulse' in which students of all the technical institutes participate in different cultural activities."IGIMS is the first institute of the state to host such a function," Organizing Secretary, Dr Manish Mandal told the TOI.
A seminar on 'Human Rights of Patients, their Attendants and Doctors' , was also organized on this occasion. Justice (retd) Rajendra Prasad, DIG (central range) Shalin and , advocate Anurag Kumar, were participants at the seminar.All the dignitaries felt doctors needed to adopt a more 'humane approach'. They also advised patients not to manhandle doctors.
Painting, singing and quiz competitions were the other competitions organized at the event. Singer Palmi Ghosh , Amit Mutreja, and Farhan Sawri sang to enthrall the audience, late in the evening .
