Rs 50 lakh has been allocated for civil and electrical works for the IVF centre, and another Rs 50 lakh is to go towards equipment to be used in this project.

Dr Kalpana Singh, In-charge, Department of Reproductive Biology, said the department was being vertically expanded to ensure the inclusion of these new facilities. "We are already carrying out Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) and an OPD for infertility. With further expansion, we will be able to carry out IVF, ICSI and other assisted reproductive technologies, where we can help the couples who are unable to reproduce naturally. The centre will also include an embryology lab complex," she informed TOI. It will take 9 months for the facility to be ready.

Dr Prabhat Kumar Sinha, IGIMS Medical Superintendent said a single-storey structure had been planned for the PMR unit. "The site plan has been finalized. It will have 5-6 rooms, including a workout place and an OPD. We will also have at least 10 beds in the unit," he told the TOI.

According to Sinha patients, who suffer long-term immobility arising from accidents, have to undergo therapy to help them mobilize their legs and arms. The facility would be ready in six months, he added.
