Bhopal government medical colleges to offer 450 additional seats

Bhopal: State medical colleges are likely to offer 450 additional medical seats from this academic year. MCI is reported to have organised a meeting recently regarding the matter.

The Director of Medical Education, Dr GS Patel informed Free Press that the MCI held a meeting with principal secretary of medical education, deans of 6 medical colleges regarding the possibility to increase number in under graduation courses in the government medical college.

MCI inspection team had visited the college premises earlier to study the feasibility of the matter. There were several issues noted by the team, more importantly insufficient classrooms, library, and lack of teaching staff among others.

Only on the assurance of the PS, DME and the deans, that the construction work along with the additional appointment of teaching and nursing medical staff will be completed shortly, did the MCI become content on the matter. It will soon release a notification.

Dr Patel also implied that a proposal for increasing the seat strengths in five government medical colleges has been sent to the MCI and GOI. GOI has approved the programme.

Additional details highlight that 100 seats more will be offered in colleges of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Indore, 50 more seats in Rewa medical college. In Sagar medical college 100 seats have already been notified.
